We Build What Culture Needs.
The Hype Foundation exists to strengthen the people and communities behind Africa’s creative economy.
We believe culture is more than entertainment. It creates jobs, shapes identity, drives communities and gives people a reason to believe in what comes next.
But the people who build culture are often left without the infrastructure they need when things go wrong. We are here to change that.
Hype Foundation builds practical, long-term programmes that protect creatives, develop talent and strengthen the ecosystem they depend on.
Why We Exist
The creative economy can create extraordinary opportunity. It can also leave people extraordinarily exposed.
Artists, producers, DJs, dancers, technicians, actors, designers, photographers and other creative professionals often work without the safety nets available in more formal industries.
A serious illness can stop a career overnight.
An accident can end someone’s ability to work.
A mental-health crisis can become a financial crisis.
A lifetime spent building culture does not automatically come with a retirement plan. And emerging creatives often have talent long before they have access, resources or opportunity.
Hype Foundation exists to close that gap. We are building an institution that helps the creative community not only succeed, but survive, recover and leave a legacy.
Our Mission
Protect. Develop. Sustain.
Our mission is to build a stronger, more resilient African creative economy by investing in the people who create it.
That means providing practical support when creatives face serious hardship, creating pathways for emerging talent, supporting creative wellbeing and helping build a more sustainable future for the industry.
We are not interested in charity for charity’s sake. We are interested in impact that lasts.
What We Do
Four programme pillars.
Creative Welfare
When serious circumstances threaten a creative professional's ability to work or live with dignity, support should not depend on who they know or how loudly people can fundraise for them.
We are building systems for emergency assistance, recovery and practical support.
Talent & Opportunity
Talent exists everywhere. Access does not.
We support programmes that help emerging creatives gain knowledge, exposure, resources, mentorship and pathways into the professional creative economy.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
The pressure behind a creative career is real.
We believe access to mental-health support should be treated as part of creative infrastructure, not an afterthought. Our long-term goal is to build practical, confidential and accessible support for the people who keep culture moving.
Legacy
Some of the people who built the culture we enjoy today reach a point where the industry moves on before they do.
We believe their contribution should not disappear with their relevance. Our legacy programmes support veteran creatives, preserve cultural memory and ensure that the people who built the industry are not forgotten.
Flagship Initiative
The Legacy Fund
When the people who create the culture need a safety net.
The Legacy Fund is Hype Foundation’s flagship creative-welfare initiative. It is being developed as a dedicated fund to provide structured assistance to Kenyan creatives facing serious health, mental-health, disability, emergency or other life circumstances that materially affect their ability to work and live.
Your career should not determine whether you deserve support when life goes wrong.
Support may include emergency intervention, healthcare-related assistance, rehabilitation, mental-health support, recovery assistance and other appropriate interventions.
We are building the Fund to be governed, accountable and transparent. That means clear eligibility, independent assessment, responsible disbursement and public reporting on impact.
This is not a handout. It is infrastructure for the creative economy.
Who We Support
Hype Foundation is designed to serve the wider creative ecosystem — not only the people on stage.
Because culture is built by more people than the audience ever sees.
How We Work
Practical Over Performative
We focus on interventions that produce real outcomes. Where appropriate, support may go directly to hospitals, healthcare professionals, rehabilitation providers, counsellors, service providers or other verified partners rather than simply providing unrestricted cash.
Independent & Accountable
The Foundation is being built around clear governance, responsible decision-making and conflict-of-interest controls. The people who raise money should not be the people who have unchecked authority over who receives it.
Dignity First
People experiencing hardship should not have to sacrifice their privacy or dignity to receive support. We will protect beneficiary confidentiality while reporting transparently on the impact of the programmes we operate.
Built To Last
We are not building a campaign. We are building an institution. Our ambition is to create programmes and funding mechanisms that can continue serving the creative community long beyond any single event, donor, campaign or individual.
Our Commitment to Transparency
Trust is earned through accountability.
Hype Foundation will publish meaningful information about the resources we mobilise, the programmes we operate and the impact we create. We believe donors, partners and the creative community deserve to know what happens after the money comes in.
As our programmes grow, we intend to report on
- Funds raised
- Funds deployed
- Number of creatives supported
- Programme outcomes
- Operating costs
- Corporate and philanthropic support
- Programme reach
Build With Us
The creative economy belongs to all of us.
Whether you are a corporation, philanthropist, creative professional, institution or individual who believes in a stronger cultural ecosystem, there is a role for you in building it.
You can support the Foundation through funding, partnerships, services, expertise, programme sponsorship or direct contributions.
This is bigger than one organisation. It is about building an ecosystem where the people who create culture have somewhere to turn, somewhere to grow and something worth leaving behind.
